Welcome to The Water Crest

We cordially invite you to be our guest at the Water Crest, New England's finest and most complete cottage complex. We offer over fifty cottage units situated on seven and a half acres of landscape bordering the nationally acclaimed Rachel Carson Wildlife Sanctuary. There is much to do and see at the Water Crest and in the local area. On the property, there is a heated outdoor pool and large whirlpool spa, two children's playground areas, and ample picnic areas and gas grills for family fun. Within the coastal town of Wells, there are seven miles of fine, sandy beaches, as well as numerous amusements and sites. All the attractions of the Southern Maine seacoast are within a short driving distance of the Water Crest.

All units at the Water Crest, including the furnishings, are individually owned and therefore each cottage portrays the unique style of its owner. Come see what brings families back to the Water Crest year after year.

Capture the Allure of the Southern Maine Coast

The Water Crest is conveniently located within a short driving distance of all the attractions the Maine Seacoast has to offer. While the beaches of the area are the main attraction, there is so much more to see and do. The town of Wells itself, settled in 1640, is rich in its colonial roots and is known as the Antiques Capital of Maine. Don't miss the many antique shops, Antique Auto Museum, and frequent area auctions.

A trip to Wells would not be complete without a visit to the Wells Reserve at Laudholm Farm, which offers miles of well maintained trails along salt marshes and estuaries. Young and old alike will delight in catching a rare glimpse of local wildlife in its natural habitat.

Shopping opportunities abound in and around Wells. Besides the many antique and rare book shops, you will find outlet shops, boutiques, arts & crafts galleries, gift shops, and fine specialty shops. You will even find familiar metropolitan stores and services in the quaint town of Wells. A five screen movie house, local restaurants and bars, super- sized outdoor mini-golf courses, and sunset cruises are available for your night life entertainment.

The world famous outlet towns of Kittery and Freeport offer visitors brand name labels at bargain prices, and tax- free shopping in New Hampshire is less than a half hour away. Neighboring towns of Ogunquit and Kennebunkport offer art galleries, museums, theatre, boutique shopping, and boating excursions (whale watching, sunset cruises, deep sea fishing).

Local tour companies offer a unique, insider's look into the area and there is even a ghost tour, in which your hooded host takes you to haunted historic sights. Local summer stock theatres, the Ogunquit Playhouse and Hackmatack Theater, offer first rate productions, including Broadway plays featuring famous actors and actresses. Performances sell out quickly in the popular small playhouses and there are many season ticket holders, so be sure to reserve seats well in advance.

Dining anywhere on the coast is a pleasure and you will find great fresh seafood at roadside clam shacks as well as at oceanfront gourmet restaurants. Numerous lobster pounds and fish markets allow you to buy the freshest sea fare to cook at your cottage or to pack on ice for the trip home.

There are special treasures to enjoy on the Southern Maine Coast in all seasons--from blueberry picking in the Spring to the spectacular Summer beaches to magnificent foliage and hay rides in the Fall. Make it special at the Water Crest.
